While corporate gathering is essential to the identity of the Church and is irreplaceable in the life of a healthy church, we are also commanded to be in subjection to the governing authorities (Romans 13:1, Titus 3:1). In light of the CDC’s recommendations to avoid groups and mass assemblies, the Governor of California, the County and City of San Diego have this week banned gatherings of more than 50 people. Therefore, in order to honor civil authorities and love our neighbors, all Sunday services and classes will be cancelled next Lord’s Day, March 22, 2020 and until further notice.
We will, however, continue to livestream the regular Order of Service, hymns and the sermon at 10:00 am this Sunday and going forward until we are able to reconvene. Although it is not a substitute for the corporate gathering of the church, we are thankful for the gift of technology that allows us to hear the Word of God preached.
Pray with us that the spread of COVID-19 is contained by these measures. Keep your fellow church members in prayer. Be sure to check up on your neighbors who may be in need.
Above all, may the Lord Jesus Christ be glorified in all that we say and do during this unprecedented time. Regardless of what we see, regardless of what we feel, Jesus Christ, our loving Savior and Good Shepherd, sits on His throne and rules His universe—a fact of which we will be reminded this Sunday, before we resume our regular series in 1 Corinthians.
May this season remind us never to take for granted the privilege and freedom we have in joining together for worship.
Soli Deo Gloria,
The Elders of Pacific Hope Church
